Camp Log Troop 87 chair's the very last Camporee for Polaris District.  500 people in attendance.

Day 1
- Troop arrives a bit late due to lots of rain back in Houston.

Day 2 - Troop sets off to claim many awards at Camporee.  One being the fire building award.  Go figure, our Troop knowing how to build a fire ;).  Troop leaders are running, event games, cooking skills, fishing along with running all of Camporee.  A huge volunteer staff from every Troop in our District helps make the Camporee very enjoyable with skills and competitions despite the weather.

Day 3 - Troop 87 handles the Scout's Own Service and does a terriffic job!  After all Troops go home, a few scouts left at Camporee, make a game of duct tape baseball.  A lot of fun to watch and it was a great way to send Polaris off with a smile.  As we loaded up the last of the Camporee items in the u-haul, we noticed that the other scouting district that had their camporee at the same time, left their American Flag up on the pole.  Time for a little "Capture the Flag".  We retrieved the flag for the other district and returned it later at our Roundtable.

Camp Log Day 1 - Long drive in and the directions via Google gave us quite the road hunt!  Once we decided to ask for directions (shh... no one is to know about that), we made it to camp just fine.  An amazing sunset  was on display as we setup camp and awaited the rest of the Troop to show up.  The Troop was delayed because of lots of rain back in Houston (see a theme yet?)  Troop arrives and everyone admires the campgrounds and starts to turn in around 11pm.  Still raining in Houston from what we are told.  Lots of rain.

Day 2 - We awake to a great morning.  A slight breeze and no humidity.  Fishing was a go as was kayaking.  Great day!  Scouts get a full day of fun in and now time for cooking!  After everyone cooks, we make hand held apple, peach  and leader surpise  pies.  A huge hit!

Day 3 - Early morning fisherman are off at around 6am.  Determined to catch a fish!  Thankfully, a small one was caught. It doesn't matter that it was not of keeper size!  It was caught!  It was released though, but at least it was caught!  I was told it was a fierce fight though!

Camp Log Day 1 - Arrived around 9:30pm and setup camp.  Everything is pretty calm.  Ducks on our site and a couple of geese. I should have seen what was going to happen.
Day 2
- I found out was is worse than my singing.  Two geese playing "Marco, Polo" on either side of our tents at 4:30am.  Absolutelly the loudest thing I have ever heard waking me up in the morning.  I wondered what geese and eggs would taste like at breakfast time.

After we finally coast back to sleep and the geese stopped playing once they found each other, we found sunrise at 7:00am to gently wake us up from our slumber.  After a quick breakfast, the scouts are off to a fishing lesson and then they go try their luck at fishing.  It seems we are not fisherman in this Troop.  So, off we go to the kayaks  During this time, Bridgett shows up and wants coffee.  Want is kind of a mild word, but we will stick with that for this part of the description.  Shortly after lunch, the park ranger came by to tell us in about 1 hour, rain will be coming.  I remember thinking, a park ranger is also a weather man?  But this area of Texas has had a horrible dry spell lately.  What are the chances it would rain on us in 1 hour?

I should have bought a lottery ticket!!

Rain came in very hard and loosened up most of the tent stakes and then gusts of wind would eventually, start picking up tents.  We secured these the best we could and tied tents together with 100' rope.  This allowed us to go to town and wait out the storm in a dry place for dinner.  Camping is tough and sometimes you make tough decisions.  The 12oz Prime Rib was  tough to choose, but the decision had to be made.  Upon our return to camp, we inspected the tents and the gear and determined that 1.) the tent pads hold in water well 2.) Our tents  are not that great at floating in tent pads that hold in water well   3.) sleeping bags make great sponges.  Actually, only a few tents had water in them, but it was enough to make a leadership decision to cut our loses and head for home.  A cold front came in and the only thing worse than being wet, is wet and cold.  Not to mention, those geese were still out there!!
Day 3 - Once back in  town and a good night's sleep, we setup tents and dried them out.  We are already for our next trip now!
